Spending in Columbia is out of control and must be stopped! We need a leader who will fight to put an end to the out-of-control spending habits of our state government. Despite repeated calls from the Governor for fiscal restraint and responsibility, our representatives have increased spending by 40 percent over the last three years. It is our money that they are spending.
We need a leader who will work to improve the education system in South Carolina. We have 85 school districts, full of bureaucracy and waste, serving just 46 counties in this state. Yet only 53 percent of our children are graduating from high school, in spite of the $10,000 per student that our school system is spending. Those who do graduate are getting a diploma from the lowest-ranked education system in the country! Our children deserve better results from the schools that our tax dollars are funding.
Finally, we need a leader who will use her vote to help end illegal immigration in South Carolina. In May of 2007, our representative blocked a piece of Senate approved legislation on illegal immigration from going to the full House for a vote. Had it cleared her committee, this legislation would certainly have passed and gone immediately to Governor Sanford, who had promised to sign it! Then just this month she voted to pass the illegal immigration bill because it was an election year. I applaud her change but change for political expedience is not what we need.
